The Road (2006) by Cormac McCarthy is a dystopian, post-apocalyptic novel and one of the best of its kind. It portrays the dangerous journey of father and son across destroyed lands of an almost-depopulated planet. Grim, scary, at moments chilling, it asks fundamental questions about life on a post-civilisation Earth. Winner of the 2007 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction.

Cormac McCarthy’s use of Anglo-Saxon English gives his prose almost a brutish sense, supporting the grim, primitive conditions in the book. His incredible use of language just blew me away. I saw the movie also and was pleasantly surprised how close to the book it was. Cinda

This book certainly doesn’t pull any punches, it’s downright grim and harsh, but at the same time so very good!
