Berserk. The neverending manga that will never end–now

It is yesterday (20 May 2021) news that Kentaro Miura, the mangaka who singlehanded wrote one of the most famous and revered manga ever, Berserk, passed away at 54. It was not Covid, in case you wonder. But the news plunged the entire anime and manga community into deep sorrow.

I can’t really say anything more than that, now. Berserk stayed with me for decades and, like million others, I have many times wondered how I would feel the moment the story would have come to an end –and which end it would that be. Part of me always prayed for Griffith’s redemption, because someone who lives with a broken heart has eventually to deal with that in a way or another. I feared the end would have left me unhappy, or angry, even. Now, I won’t feel anything but emptiness, because nobody remained to write it. 安らかにお眠りください, Kentaro. We will never forget you.
