Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Books and a Beat.
Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
“Catherine de Medici has variously been called ‘The Maggot from Italy’s Tomb’, ‘The Black Queen’ and ‘Madame La Serpente’. To many, she is the very incarnation of the evil.”
(~Catherine de Medici by Leonie Frieda, Kindle Edition, 2004)
[Note: I’m a passionate of Renaissance Europe, and I’ve read pretty much all biographies I could put my hands on -in various languages- regarding Catherine, which is one of my favourite personages, for many reasons. She has been vilified for centuries and only recently historians have started to present a more equilibrate portrait of this complex queen, certainly one of the finest minds of XVI century. Leonie Frieda’s book reads like a novel and it has the merit of being fair. Here the Guardian’s review of the biography: https://www.theguardian.com/books/2004/jan/11/biography.features]
PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT with either the link to your own Teaser Tuesdays post, or share your ‘teasers’ in a comment here and/or in Books and a Beat’s blog.
