SF Classics – Titan by Stephen Baxter

Titan (1997) is a SF/ techno-thriller by Stephen Baxter. It examines Saturn’s moon Titan as the object of a manned mission aiming at discovering alien life, but also the more general issue of human exploration of the Solar System. More political than other Baxter’s novels, it presents a pessimistic depiction of the American society. Nominated for the Arthur C. Clarke Award in 1988.

    Thanks for reminding me of Titan. I don’t think I’ve ever seen near future predictions, spaceflight and dystopia combined so well.

      You’re right! And let’s not forget the Chinese…one of the few books of the 90s to get them correctly into the picture for space exploration.

        I seem to remember it pretty much predicted the Tea Party as well, and put them in charge.
