About

SPBWho am I? Many things (social scientist -statistician -historian- manga lover come immediately to my mind. Other definitions apply from time to time). Short Answer: Steph P. Bianchini.

What do I do? I work in academia and as a data scientist on selected projects. I write (lots of) non-fiction outputs –i.e., journal articles and books in my subject areas. I also do write fiction under a different byline, Russell H. Mainly (and rather obviously) science-fiction. But I also fancy (alternate) history, dystopias, cyberpunk. And horror. Plenty of horror (hey, I’m HWA).

Which part of the planet I’m based right now? Used to be Scotland, after many years of East Asia. Now I am on the move again. Still looking forward to that Moon Village I wrote/spoke about, although will probably be quite busy, given all the missions planned for the next ten years (Artemis first). The introvert in me strongly suggests aiming for a more secluded place.

What are you going to find here? What the Earthian Hivemind has always been. A  blog for discussions about science (and history) in speculative fiction. Interesting stuff collected here and there, often (but not exclusively) on the space sector. Book/movie reviews on SFF&H (that stays for Science-Fiction Fantasy & Horror). (More) history in all its forms, fiction and not. And Japanese manga/anime, a lifetime passion that never went away.

Starting from Fall 2019 until 2023, this blog has also hosted selected materials from Frozen Wavelets, a zine of speculative flash fiction and poetry (# 1 in December 2019). The zine is currently offline due to technical issue but I have mirrored some content here and the idea is to make it all accessible as soon as I am able to.

From August 2026, I have also merged my own fiction page (Russell H.) here, mainly out of convenience. In case you are interested, you can find the updates on my writing on the section ‘The Bookshelf’ in this blog.
