The third submission period of Frozen Wavelets closed on 16 August, after the customary two weeks of opening, and it is now the time for some stats. The total number of submissions has increased compared to the previous submission period– 524— equally distributed between fiction and poetry.
Fiction: 305 Poetry: 219
While we’re still working our way through the pieces, we have found out that a substantial part of writers were first-time submitters to our zine, which is very good indeed. However, there were as usual impressive examples of not reading the guidelines or even (mis)reading them –ending up in the same, usual way (=rejection).
We also received many drabbles and short-short fiction and poetry, which was what we’re after this time. Sadly, we never receive enough of East Asian fiction and poetry and/or pieces in translation. Hint: we’re going to send out a specific submission call about that next year or so.
For this specific submission period, we aim at sending out shortlisting by the end of month and acceptances/contracts by 30 September at the very latest, but probably earlier than that.
Stay tuned.
