The WWW Wednesday meme was formerly hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm and revived by Sam @ Taking on a World of Words. It’s a great way to do a weekly update on what you’ve been reading and what you have planned. To take part all you have to do is answer the following three questions:
- What are you currently reading?
- What did you recently finish reading?
- What do you think you’ll read next?
Currently Reading: The Wanderer by Mika Waltari
This is the same author of the famous The Egyptian -which I read, and loved it, as a teenager – so I decided to give this still-unknown-to-me novel a try. I’ve just started so it’s too early for me to judge.
Recently finished: The Cardinal’s Hat by Mary Hollingsworth
Albeit its catchy title, this is NOT a novel, but an interesting non-fiction book that examines the household of a famous 1500 prelate, Cardinal Ippolito D’Este (one of them, at least. There were more with the same name, a feature quite common in the Renaissance times, where nobles seem to be called all in an identical way, for the dismay of the historians). This Ippolito was the son of Lucrezia Borgia, not her brother-in-law with the same name. I found this book really interesting for the depiction of everyday life inside of a rich man household, in Italy as well as at the French court. And more often than not, it read like a historical novel. Read the Guardian’s review here.
Reading Next: Story of Your Life and Others by Ted Chiang.
I believe Ted Chiang (a Hugo winner, among other things) is one of the most talented SF authors around. Not only that: his writing is amazing. I have read Chiang’s The Merchant and the Alchemist’s Gate (see here for more) and I can’t wait to dive into this collection.
