Teaser Tuesday (19 Jun)

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme, hosted at The Purple Booker.

Anyone can play along by doing the following:

• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers

(~ Altai by Wu Ming, Kindle Edition, 2012)

[This is the sequel Q, a really *brilliant* novel set in the Renaissance times. An interesting detail: Wu Ming doesn’t exist -the literal Chinese translation is “no name” -and it is the byline of four Italian writers, Roberto Bui, Giovanni Cattabriga, Federico Guglielmi and Riccardo Pedrini based in Bologna. This is what the Guardian wrote about Altai: ‘The story is narrated by Emanuele de Zante, a Venetian gentleman, spycatcher and torturer who is accused of being a spy himself. De Zante becomes a fugitive, rediscovers his Jewish identity and ends up travelling to Salonica and Constantinople, making love and falling in love along the way, being captured by dastardly traitors, escaping from them, and eventually working with Giuseppe Nasi (“The Damned. The Cursed One. The Devil in person. The Sultan’s favourite Jew”) to try to establish a Jewish homeland in Cyprus.’ A great novel, guys. Go read it!]

PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT with either the link to your own Teaser Tuesdays’ post, or share your ‘teasers’ in a comment here and/or in The Purple Booker.

I think I heard them discussing this book on Radio 4 the other day – but I wasn’t listening all that hard as I was also cleaning the bathroom:)). It sounded really good, though. Thank you for sharing.

I think a historian like you can really appreciate it. But I’d recommend reading “Q” first, if you have not. 🙂
