Gundam News – [ガンダムシリーズ]

While we wait for next year (2019 is going to be the 40th anniversary of Gundam) a few news about the franchise.

First of all, this article –New ‘Gundam’ Anime Reveals Its 2018 Release Date – gives updates on the upcoming Gundam series, Gundam Build Divers, which is expanding on the Gunpla side of the franchise. Not my favourite, to be true, but worth watching if you’re a fan of the Gunpla.

This is what Sunrise (the producer) wrote: “The Gunpla Force Battle Tournament is a big event held in GBN once per year. Competing in the final round are Avalon, led by the champion Kyoya Kujo, and the elite 7th Panzer Division led by the cunning Rommel. Starting with Kyoya’s Gundam AGE II Magnum, a variety of Gunpla take to the field to determine which is the strongest force!”  (more about this latest spin-off here).

Moreover, NHK, Japan’s national public broadcasting station, has just launched an online poll project titled “All Gundam Big Voting 40th” asking everybody to select their favourite series, characters, mobile suits and songs. According to the project site, “the Gundam franchise has had 56 series, over 2,000 characters, 900 mechas and 200 theme songs. You can vote for your favourites until 23:59 on April 20, then the winners will be announced in the live-broadcasting program to be aired on NHK BS Premium on May 5″ (Here all the details).

Interested in voting? This is the online link (in Japanese) and yes, they accept overseas votes!

I have still to complete casting mine, but here’s my selection:

  • Series: 1979 Mobile Suit Gundam (機動戦士ガンダム);
  • Character: Casval Rem Deikun / Char Aznable (シャア・アズナブル ); HM: Zechs Merquise (ゼクス・マーキス) [Gundam Wing]
  • Song: It’s not Anime (Anime Ja Nai) [アニメじゃない]; Arai Masato[正人 新井]
  • Mobile suit: Qubeley [Haman Karn’s mecha, Gundam Z]

What are your favourites? Let me know, and I’ll devote some space here to the popular ones.

And I can’t wait to find out the official results from NHK!
