Teaser Tuesday (7 November)

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme, hosted at The Purple Booker.

Anyone can play along by doing the following:

• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

Mountains have the power to call us into their realms and there, left forever, are our friends whose great souls were longing for the heights. Do not forget the mountaineers who have not returned from the summits.”

(~ The Climb: Tragic Ambitions on Everest  by Anatoli Boukreev, Kindle Edition, 1997)

[ Something different this week for my teaser. This is one of the memoirs written after the 1996 Everest Disaster, where eight people lost their lives. You can also watch a good movie on Netflix now, called “Everest”. Boukreev’s account is (also) reply to Jon Krakauer’s famous book “Into Thin Air”, which somehow tells a different story. I suggest reading both before making up your mind about what really happened over there. ]

PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT with either the link to your own Teaser Tuesdays’ post, or share your ‘teasers’ in a comment here and/or in The Purple Booker.

I watched the movie and some documentaries about this and I’d like to read the book too. Such a tragedy.

Great cover. Books about Mt Everest tragedies are always interesting.

Yes, and this one was the best among them (for me).

It is, but very nice reading, too.

Sounds like an intriguing book. I really don’t understand the urge to climb mountains though. This week my book is A Peace Divided by Tanya Huff. Happy reading!

Thanks Kathy. I’m not a climber either, but the endeavour itself is fascinating (like the book).

Thank you for your teaser – and your suggestion to read both versions makes solid sense. My TT this week is an intriguing epic fantasy – https://sjhigbee.wordpress.com/2017/11/07/teaser-tuesday-6th-november-2017/

Thanks Sarah. The controversy was a huge one here, even though the film somehow managed to avoid taking a side (and that’s why it is worth watching it).

I remember when Into Thin Air came out (the book). It was such a harrowing story. I’m fascinated by Everest!

Yes, that was the first one written by the journalist that was there. “The Climb” is the other version. Worth reading both, IMO.
