Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted at Wishful Endings, to spotlight and discuss the books we’re excited about that we have yet to read. Generally, they’re books that have yet to be released. It’s based on Waiting on Wednesday, hosted by the Jill at Breaking the Spine (apparently no longer active. Also, many thanks to Tammy Sparks for letting me discover it).
It is the first time I join, but I couldn’t avoid it, since I’ve been invited to preview the ARC of Artemis, the most-awaited second novel by the author of The Martian, Andy Weir, a book I have truly loved and reviewed here. However, Artemis is not a sequel, and it is based on the Moon, not Mars. And the MC is a kick-ass girl. What’s not to be excited?
Here’s the blurb:
Jazz Bashara is a criminal.
Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you’re not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you’ve got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent.
Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down. But pulling off the impossible is just the start of Jazz’s problems, as she learns that she’s stepped square into a conspiracy for control of Artemis itself – and that now, her only chance at survival lies in a gambit even more unlikely than the first.
For more about the book, trivia etc, have a look at Andy Weir’s FB page here
Also, if you’re UK based, you can ask for an ARC through NetGalley (apparently, they’re denying US requests for reasons of publishing rights).
Artemis is going to be released in November 2017. Expect a full review just before that time.
Oooh! I really enjoyed The Martian and this sounds just as good or better! I really need a good sci-fi in my life right now!

I think this can be the right one! 😀
I’m so excited for this too! And I love this cover. There is also a US/Canada version on Netgalley:-)
Yes – and thanks for letting me know re:NetGalley. I’m on the UK one, and they said no US residents… I’ll spread the word. 🙂
I wonder if this one will be as popular as The Martian? I’m betting so. Nice choice.
Thanks for stopping by Barb – I think it has all the numbers to be!
I haven’t heard of this one, but I have The Martian sitting on my bookshelf waiting to be read! I’ll have to get on that one. I love that the MC in this one is a kick-ass female! Nice pick!!
The Martian is really a good book, and Artemis promises to be as such. And yes, I think Weir made the good call using a girl this time. Watney (the Martian’s MC) was great, a difficult one to beat (funny, too, btw). 🙂
Envy is truly a terrible thing… can I just say that I’m currently GREEN! I requested this one via Netgalley and was refused *sigh*. I look forward to reading your review in due course:)
Oh gosh! I assume I was invited (this is how I heard about it, btw. An email from them) because I did an early review of The Martian, before the movie hype. But November is just next door 🙂
All is well that ends well. I had another go and Netgalley has just approved me:)). I think I had requested the US publication!
Yes, I believe so, US people can’t for example request it on Netgalley UK. Glad you have it now 🙂
So am I – it was one I REALLY wanted to read this year!
🙂
I can’t wait to read this! It must be so stressful for an author to follow up a runaway hit debut, but I’m sure I’ll like Artemis too. The premise sounds right up my alley.
I agree with you, when you go straight to the top there’s only one way ahead… But to me Weir made all the right calls. Not Mars, but the Moon, a girl and one that sounds as feisty and full of energy as Mark. Just read two pages and I’m already hooked. 🙂
Oh this is tempting I really enjoyed The Martian and it’s a long time since I’ve read any sci-fi. Thanks for the review. 🙂
I’m sure you’re going to love this one! 🙂
I don’t doubt it. 🙂
