Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme, hosted at The Purple Booker.
Anyone can play along by doing the following:
• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
“Monday, August 6, 1888, was a Bank Holiday in London. The city was a carnival of wondrous things to do for as little as pennies if one could spare a few.”
(~ Portrait of a Killer. Jack the Ripper, Case Closed by Patricia Cornwell, Kindle Edition, 2002)
[ The quote is the incipit of Patricia Cornwell’s famous non-fiction book about Jack the Ripper – a reading as compelling as her best novels. I’m simply *loving* it, and she makes quite a strong case for the Ripper’s presumptive identity.]
PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT with either the link to your own Teaser Tuesdays post, or share your ‘teasers’ in a comment here and/or in The Purple Booker.
Looks interesting! It really is amazing how Jack the Ripper has intrigued generations and become a part of so many books and TV shows.
Yes, it’s quite telling – to me. He almost looks like a fictional character.
I do recall a TV programme about this one… and very good it was, too. Many thanks for sharing, Steph:).
A truly fascinating story, isn’t it?
Oh yes, I really enjoyed it!
Sounds intriguing. I like Cornwell’s fiction and should give this book a try. The teaser on my adult blog is from A Twist of the Knife by Becky Masterman. Happy reading!
Yes, Cornwell is always great, no matter for she writes 😀
This sounds very interesting. Are you learning a lot?
My teaser this week: https://collinesblog.com/2017/03/14/between-sisters-by-cathy-kelly/
Thanks – going to check it straight away!
“For CDD, those six months promised to be a torment for the incompetent and a revelation for the brilliant. But Braun’s fire-drill regime lasted less than two months, and was ended by an advertisement at a soccer match.”
Rainbows End by Vernor Vinge
This is my first taste of Vinge and I’m loving it so far. I loved Cornwell’s book on Jack the Ripper. She indeed makes a very, very strong case for her suspect.
Oh, I love Vernor Vinge – I’m sure you’re going to enjoy this author!
I’ve been reading her Kay Scarpetta books for years. I actually bought this non fiction book some time ago. Still haven’t finished it. I guess I got distracted and forgot. I watched an interview with her and she talked about her research for this. Thanks for reminding me about this one.
My TT from Jurassic Island
She has also written another (short) book on the topic, explaining the whole story of her investigation. Quite interesting!
