Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme, hosted at The Purple Booker.
Anyone can play along by doing the following:
• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
“It was an odd relationship, but then she was an extraordinary woman: a prioress who doubted much of what the church taught; an acclaimed healer who rejected medicine as practised by physicians; and a nun who made enthusiastic love to her man whenever she could get away with it. If I wanted a normal relationship, Merthin told himself, I should have picked a normal girl.”
(~ The World Without End by Ken Follett, Kindle Edition, 2007)
[Note: This is the second instalment of the famous Medieval saga started by The Pillars of the Earth, famously featuring the building of cathedrals. I’ve carefully avoided watching the TV series, to avoided being distracted by historical mistakes and oversight common in similar cases. The book is long, but worth a reading – and, I must say, more for the scenario than the single characters, which I generally didn’t like, with the only exception of Caris, the one lady the quote mentions. Moreover, the depiction of the Black Death is a quite good one – and I’ve read a few of them, real and fictional.]
PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT with either the link to your own Teaser Tuesdays post, or share your ‘teasers’ in a comment here and/or in The Purple Booker.
I’ve been meaning to try a Ken Follett book for ages but the sheer size of them scares me. I like what you said in your notes though, so maybe I will attempt The Pillars of the Earth sometime soon.
Happy Reading

thanks Rachel. I have to say this is a great reading if you like historical novels. Otherwise you could give Follett a try with his first books, spy stories like The Eye of the Needle, for example. They’re really good.
It’s a long time since I read Ken Follett – and it wasn’t this one, so I’m interested to see what you make of the series – not a set of books to be undertaken lightly! Thank you for sharing, Steph. My TT – https://sjhigbee.wordpress.com/2017/02/28/teaser-tuesday-28th-february-2016/
Ken Follett is a real treat, and the good thing of this series is that is historically solid. This is why I’m reluctant to watch the TV adaptation…
I think that is probably an intelligent decision – televised series are often unsatisfactory (Wolf Hall being an honourable exception). Himself is likely to have this series as he is a sucker for good historical series.
Wolf Hall you said? Is it the one with Cromwell, isn’t it – need to check it out! Thanks 🙂
Oh yes! If you haven’t read it, then do track it down. It’s not for everyone – the pov is a tad odd, but I firmly advise you persevere for at least 3 chapters and by then, I’d stopped worrying about it, because I was so engrossed in Cromwell and the story. Both these books absolutely blew me away – and I’m hard to impress about this era as the Tudor period is my speciality and consequently I get very fed up with historical inaccuracies. Mantel used all the events with pinpoint sharpness – just put her own Cromwellian spin on them. Masterfully done!
As a matter of fact, I’ve found out I had already bought the book on Kindle and forgot about it… it happens when you’re too greedy 😀 Thanks for reminding me – I’ll post as a review here as soon as I’m done!
I look forward to hearing what you think about it:).
She does sound like a unique character. This week my teaser comes from Etched in Bone by Anne Bishop. Happy reading!
She sure is. Thanks for the teaser!
She sure does break the mold. Sounds like an intriguing series.
My TT from Through Glass
Thanks for stopping by!
Yep, that’s going to be a weird relationship.
Great teaser. My teaser is from The Raven King by Nora Sakavic
thanks – I’ll go and check it!
