NaNoWriMo 2015 – done and dusted

Done -yesterday night just in time I finally validated my wordcount: 51,299 – otherwise said, I made it. It has taken a lot of efforts, three trips to the UK Midlands (train is such a perfect place to write, provided you book your place in advance with a table and a power socket) and two weekends of monastic isolation… but well, now it feels like it was worth it.

Compared to last year (my first NaNo) 2015 was more difficult because I knew I could do it and I started later than I should have.  After that it has been a constant struggle to make it up for that missing week. But it was also easier, because I attended some events / gatherings with fellow writers (last year I was overseas for work), and that was a real incentive to keep working.

One thing has remained the same though: I haven’t the vaguest idea of what doing with my SF 50K – this time I had not even thought about a title. Eventually I’ll figure out something… For the moment, the only thing I really fancy is sleeping.

Before I go crashing on my bed (again) for a morning nap, I’d like to thank my fellow NaNoWriters, in Edinburgh and elsewhere, for the great support offered, and congratulate everybody that accepted the challenge this year. You won anyway, you reached your 50K or not.

Congratulation, Steph! It’s always a great feeling to hit a deadline and that is a wonderful feat. As for what to do with it…it’s far too soon to be able to think coherently about any of that now. But having written longer than I care to, all I can say is that things I wrote YEARS ago and tucked away in a dusty file have suddenly roared back into life as I have found ways to use the world/large chunks of backstory/characters for my latest project, thus saving me hours of writing and thinking time… (Smiles smugly at my new writing recycling green habit).

Congratulations! It’s a huge achievement. I also struggled more this year because I didn’t start with an outline and 30K words onward was very touch and go. I’ve learned my lesson learned for next year 🙂

I agree, outlining first saves you a lot of troubles later…!

Congratulations on finishing! I’d have such a difficult time writing a first draft in a month, i.e. something that’s already set up. I’ve written first drafts very quickly and also very slowly. It depends on the story. Getting the first draft down on paper (or in a computer file) is a great beginning and achievement.

Congratulations! What an accomplishment that serves you now, but in the future whenever you need to remind yourself about your dedication, your abilities, or your desire to keep going. Great job. I hope you celebrate =).
