Gernsback SF Short Story Writing Contest 2015

If you’re following this blog you already know I contribute articles to Amazing Stories. Today I’d like to talk about the SF short story contest the e-zine has launched this year named after Hugo Gernsback (yes, he’s the one the Hugo Awards got their name from. For some background, read this).

If you’re a SF writer (sorry guys, no fantasy for this call) and you want to submit a story, these are the important details.

When: July, 2015 (the whole month)

Length: up to 2000 words

Limit: up to 100 entries (first come, first served basis)

Theme: What will the Solar System look like 250 years from now?  (Get creative here, but keep an eye on the science part. For more hints and suggestion re:theme, please refer to Amazing Stories’ call, that you can find here).

Payment/ Prizes:

The 1st, 2nd and 3rd place stories will each receive payment at 6 cents per word and will qualify for SFWA Active Membership (IMO, that would be reason good enough to try to get it). All ten finalists will be published in Amazing Stories, and will received a certificate – a sort of honourable mention. Finally, an anthology of the contest finalists will also be published at some moment.

The judges of the competitions are going to be three SFWA members, Cat Rambo (previous SFWA Vice President and the newly elected President), Dave Creek and Jack Clemons.

(Incidentally: I would very much like to submit a story as well but, due to the fact I am one of the slush readers, can’t do so…next time).

Submissions will be through Submittable and will only open on July, 1 – so wait until then.  Any question, please refer to Amazing Stories website.

Aw, it’s a shame you can’t enter. Still, next time.
