What follows is a guest post (for info about how to contribute posts to this page, please look up at Guest Area Section). The original version of this book review, genre fantasy, has been uploaded on Amazon Italy as a verified book review. I have translated it in English – mistakes are obviously all mine.
Sophie Jordan is Sharie Kohler’s pen name. Sharie is an English teacher, author of a few Avon’s romance books. Under her original name she had already published a trilogy in the paranormal genre (with werewolves as protagonists).
I tried the first book of her last trilogy, this time on dragons, simply because there are less stories about them compared to werewolves and vampires, at least in the last years. The start is catching, and the concept of dragons shapeshifting into humans is certainly good. The plot is page-turning, and her writing style is rather enjoyable. However, what comes after doesn’t live up to my expectations. The romance side starts prevailing, and we face once more a Twilight-style narrative, with pages of irresistible love between the heroine and her handsome hunter. Very same concept with just few variations – and rather dull as a result. Even the relationship between the protagonist, her sister and their mother is vague and undefined, lost among moments of boundless love, egoistic behaviours (sister) and authoritarian stances (mother). All considered, it may be fine as YA story, less for a mature audience. I am not going to read the other two instalments of the trilogy.
