Teaser Tuesday (9 May)

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme, hosted at The Purple Booker.

Anyone can play along by doing the following:

• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

Once again he caught a strangeness on the wind, neither pleasant nor unpleasant, neither odour nor perfume—just strange, and curiously exciting. “Superintendent, what’s that smell? Casey noticed it too, the moment Sven opened the door.” Armstrong hesitated. Then he smiled. “That’s Hong Kong’s very own, Mr. Bartlett. It’s money.

That’s a nice teaser. James Clavell is not an author I’ve read but I have his books on my bookshelf – Noble House and Shogun. I’ve always felt a bit intimidated by his books.

It’s a while since I read James Clavell, but I do recall one of his strengths was his detailed worldbuilding which took you to the heart of his settings. I hope you’re enjoying this one, Steph:). Mine this week is one I’ve been waiting for… https://sjhigbee.wordpress.com/2017/05/09/teaser-tuesday-12th-may-2017/

Yes, Clavell is a real master for that – and this for me is a re-read. I’ve literally devoured this one when I was in high school 😉

Haha, my family is from Hong Kong – I’d say the first thing you smell the moment you land is Victoria Harbor…at the old airport anyway 😉

Eheh… I know what you mean! I’ve lived in Hong Kong for several years (during my PhD and later on for work) and I can relate. But I still love (and miss) the place. 🙂

One of the best books I read in the past: I loved the wonderful blend of history and intrigue, and the well-crafted characters. What a great walk through memory lane! Thank you! 🙂
