Teaser Tuesday (14 February)

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme, hosted at The Purple Booker.

Anyone can play along by doing the following:

• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

It’s that moon again, slung so fat and low in the tropical night, calling out across a curdled sky and into the quivering ears of that dear old voice in the shadows, the Dark Passenger, nestled snug in the backseat of the Dodge K-car of Dexter’s hypothetical soul. That rascal moon, that loudmouthed leering Lucifer, calling down across the empty sky to the dark hearts of the night monsters below, calling them away to their joyful playgrounds.”

(~ Dearly Devoted Dexter by Jeff Lindsay, Kindle Edition, 2005)

[Note: This is the second book of Dexter‘s series. While Showtime TV series is worldwide famous – with good reasons – not so many people have read the books. I read the first one – Darkly Dreaming Dexter – when I’ve started the TV series and I found the two really close, in terms of quality, narrative, POV and supportive characters. From the second onward, however, the two diverge. While the quality remains high, the stories follow different paths. After having watched – a few times – TV Dexter, now I’m discovering his book sibling -an amazing one! ]

PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT with either the link to your own Teaser Tuesdays post, or share your ‘teasers’ in a comment here and/or in The Purple Booker.

I haven’t followed the TV series, but the writing certainly seems very punchy and readable. Thank you for sharing, Steph:). My TT this week is a love story – but there’s more it than that… https://sjhigbee.wordpress.com/2017/02/14/teaser-tuesday-14th-february-2016/

You might want to give the first book a try. While it’s a serial killer, it’s not horror. 🙂

Hm. I don’t like serial killer stories, so don’t watch or read them…

I loved the TV series and read the first book — looks like I should probably read more. 🙂

Yes, worth continuing the (book) series, even though I warn you it’s a bit “darker” than the TV series…

You’ll see that from the end of book one things go definitively into a different direction, but Dexter stays the same (as a character). It’s a sort of Dexter-Alternate History.

I’ve always wanted to try these books, but I’ve heard they are REALLY different from the show. I’m a huge fan of the show, but I may give these a try at some point.

Same here, I loved Dexter, and when I’ve started the books I was absolutely delighted. Worth a try, indeed.

If you’ve liked the series, you’ll like the books to, and I’d say they are even more interesting if you’ve watched the series, actually.

I’ve never seen the series. It sounds interesting. This week my teaser comes from I See You by Clare Mackintosh. Happy reading!

Both series and books are quite interesting – especially if you like crime/thriller.

I didn’t know the tv show was inspired by these books! While I did not follow the show to its end (I must do that at the first re-run that comes my way) I would be curious to sample the story in written form… 🙂

Books are definitively good, even though you’ll find yourself in a sort of parallel universe. What if…?
