SF Classics – The Fountains of Paradise by Arthur C. Clarke

The Fountains of Paradise (1979) is SF novel by Arthur C. Clarke. It discusses for the first time the possibility of space elevators linking Earth with geosynchronous satellites, in something that looks now on the verge of becoming a viable technology. Visionary and enticing as all Clarke’s novels, it is somehow an easier reading than others, and very enjoyable. Winners of Hugo and Nebula Awards.

Must read this again sometime, though it’s been nearly three decades since I last did. All set in Taprobane, a stand-in of course for Sri Lanka — Clarke’s last residence — though here repositioned at the equator rather than to the north of it.

Yes, indeed – another interesting detail. 🙂
